When the who’s who of international sailing meets in Travemünde from 21 to 30 July 2023, artists from Travemünde will offer an exciting insight into their maritime art and creativity in the “Galerie Hafenpanorama” in the cruise terminal For the first time, Lübeck and Travemünde Marketing GmbH, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Education of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, is organising the maritime exhibition in the glass terminal at Ostpreußenkai on the occasion of Travemünde Week, in order to show the connection between the local art scene and the popular sailing event. A total of fourteen painters and photographers from Travemünde and the region will present their works of art on the themes of sea, ships, beach, wind and sailing on 450 square metres. Mayor Jan Lindenau is the patron and will officially open the exhibition on Friday 21 July at 7pm. Mayor Jan Lindenau is the patron and will officially open the exhibition on Friday 21 July at 7pm.
“Travemünde and the sea belong together like a ship and its sail. They are inseparable and there are endless beautiful motifs that impressively depict this special symbiosis,” explains Mayor Jan Lindenau. “The premiere of the harbour panorama gallery is an enrichment for the Travemünde Week programme and I am pleased that so many artists from Travemünde and the region are participating and presenting their maritime art under one roof. This is a nice new component that will further enhance the cultural value of Travemünde Week.
Artists such as Frauke Klatt, Gerd Rehme, Jacek Krefft and Wim Westfield will be taking part. The Verein für Kunst und Kultur zu Travemünde e.V. will show videos of its WindArt objects on a screen and present the children’s and youth project “Sea of Flags”, which was created by Travemünde artist Inga Prasse together with pupils from various classes as part of the 15th WindArt open air exhibition. Ten of the twelve flags will be created at the Travemünde City School, the Ostsee-Gymnasium Timmendorfer Strand, the Oberschule zum Dom, the Johanneum and the Katharineum in Lübeck; the other two will be painted on site by children and young people taking part in the Travemünde Week. The Ostsee-Gymnasium Travemünde is taking part in the exhibition with an art sculpture made of recycled plastic as the result of an environmental education project. The children of the Travemünde Community Accommodation provide information with self-designed pictures and posters about the dolphin Delle, who took people’s hearts by storm with his visit to the seaside resort at the end of April/beginning of May.
In cooperation with the “IMPULS” team (initiated by Dr. Klaus Splieth and Christian P. Schlichte), which is committed to the cultural revitalisation of the seaside resort, free workshops by various artists are planned to encourage visitors to become creative themselves. These include photography, painting and drawing courses, readings, creative writing courses, musical performances on the POPUP stage, video presentations and, as a highlight, a panel discussion on ‘Questions and Answers about Art’.
