The maritime side of Travemünde Week focuses on sailing and the close connection to the water. At the TW Forum, visitors gain fascinating insights into the regatta action and the world of sailing.
The Trave Races are the daily show highlight. Right in front of the promenade, four to eight crews compete in thrilling short-course races – fast, spectacular and close to the audience. Within about an hour (from around 5 pm), the Trave becomes a racecourse, accompanied by engaging live commentary.
Another cherished tradition is the annual Rotspon Cup at the mouth of the Trave. Here, Lübeck’s mayor Jan Lindenau competes against a political counterpart from Kiel – this year, state parliament president Kristina Herbst. Boat against boat for honour and a bottle of Rotspon – on Wednesday, 23 July at 12 noon.
Be right there as top international sailors compete daily on the Baltic Sea. With accompanying regatta cruises, you can experience the action up close. Numerous boat classes compete, including rotating championships such as German, European or World Championships. From one of the many spectator boats, you’ll have a perfect view of the races.
Enjoy a summer day at the quay with cool drinks! On board the Mare Frisium, the crew not only serves refreshments but also opens up the historic three-masted schooner. During “Open Ship Bar” times, you can explore above and below deck, chat with the captain and crew, and experience authentic maritime flair.
