boot reception for a good cause

To kick off the 134th Travemünde Week, boot Düsseldorf invited guests to a “Klönschnack” on the four-masted barque “Passat” on Saturday. As part of the convivial get-together of political celebrities and the water sports scene, representatives of the Düsseldorf trade fair presented a cheque for 3.000 euros to the association “Rettet die Passat” (Save the Passat) in keeping with a long-standing tradition.

In his welcoming speech, Düsseldorf’s head of the trade fair Wolfram Diener emphasised the close ties between the metropolis on the Rhine and the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and Travemünde. The partnership between boot and Travemünde Week will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. To ensure that the Passat can continue to lie as a landmark at the mouth of the Trave, Wolfram Diener presented Mayor Jan Lindenau and the chairman of the “Rettet die Passat” association, Holger Bull, with the traditional boot cheque for €3.000 in support.

Lindenau thanked the Mayor on behalf of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck for the donation and announced in this context that Lübeck and Travemünde will again be represented with their own stand at boot Düsseldorf next year in order to continue to put the region in the spotlight as a sailing and water sports destination. “In recent years we have made tourism development, especially in Travemünde with its connection to the water, a focal point. That is why it is a good fit to move forward with the location of the seaside resort of Travemünde together with boot Düsseldorf,” said the mayor.

Just like the Lübeck Yacht Club, boot is also committed to promoting young sailing talent. Diener therefore welcomed Clara Weimer at the Klönschnack. The young sailor from the ranks of the Lübeck Yacht Club will set off from her home port on 5 August for a trip to the Caribbean. boot Düsseldorf will accompany this voyage in the media.

Like the “Passat”, Weimer will also be heading for Cape Verde on her trip. In keeping with this, the culinary theme of the Klönschnack evening was the islands under the wind with dishes such as green papaya and peanut salad, red lentil soup with coconut and curry, prawns in Tom Yum vegetable broth, tuna steaks and coconut pannacotta. DJ Malex-O and a singing duo provided musical accompaniment for the evening.
