Ten days of arts, cuisine, sound enjoyment

International, inclusive, innovative: At its 130. anniversary, the Travemuende Week (19. until 28. July) will again offer a regatta program meeting the expectations of one of the biggest German sailing events. In the focus will be of course the championships being sailed in seven disciplines on a German or in case of the O'pen Bic on a European level.  With the George Cockshott Trophy of the 12'-Dinghies, the TW is embedded into an exclusive international circuit of four European stations in the traditional dinghy class. Apart from the title races, among them standing out the premiere of the German Championship of the yachts with a crew of two people, Travemuende is also the venue  of the National Sailing League as well a the Junior Sailing League and also offers 13 regattas with a ranking list as well as the show sailing on the river Trave with the special sportive and political showdown of the mayors' race on the 24. July in the Volksbank Rotspon Cup.  Directed by Luebecks club Sail United, there will again be an offer of water sports for people with and without disabilities organized on the second weekend of the TW.

Even ashore, the Travemuende Week offers the whole spectrum of a summer festival. With the 19. July and the official opening signal from Luebeck's mayor Jan Lindenau on the "Lisa von Luebeck" at the Uberseebruecke, the festival area in the triangle of the river Trave and the seafront will be opened for the visitors. Between the greenfield for the Tornados and the Bertlingstrasse, culinary delights from all over the world will be offered, as well as arts from the region and sound enjoyment from German "schlager" songs to rock music.  With some adjustments to the festival, the Travemuende Week is continuing to adapt to the the needs of the several hundred thousands of visitors.

Trave Promenade and Sailors' Village
Guests looking for the direct contact to the sailors from all around the world, are in the best hands at the Trave Promenade.  The entire week, dinghies and keel boats of the TW participants will be at the greenfield for the Tornados.  National league sailors and title fighters of the German 505 Championship are present here as well as the international guests for the George Cockshott Trophy of the 12' Dinghies. And the adjacent Sailors' Village is in any case a meeting point for the athletes.  The race office is located here in the former building of the rescue service, which now is the club house of the main organizer of the Travemuende Week. All information around the regattas will be available around the clock. The big tent of the TW supporter Marinepool invites to go shopping and offers the right atmosphere for the party area. DJ Udo will present his music here in the evenings, and of course, the top sailors will be celebrated at the prize giving ceremonies.  The Holsten Ankerplatz, the Nordic beer garden and the great variety of fish and sea food offered at Falkenthal Seafood from Groemitz brings the Nordic feeling to the TW. The Volvo Forum is visiting for the fifth time and offers next to their vehicle range also a sense of Swedish life style.  And of course you can again move up into the air here in the Sailors' Village and get an overview on the scenery. Because the ferris wheel nowadays has a fixed place at the Travemuende Week and invites for a ride.

Media Tent and Erdinger Beer Garden
A bit further down the promenade of the river Trave there is the Media Tent from the Luebecker Nachrichten (a Luebeck newspaper) and the NDR (a Northern German Radio Station). Every ten days, the media companies offer hands-on activities, infotainment, music and culinary experiences.  The activities range from dancing to fitness up to photo workshops, the music program in the evening from singer songwriter Lukas Kowalski to the Caribbean night and a band contest. And in interesting panel discussions interesting facts will be presented. NDR moderator Birte Steuer is leading through the program throughout the day.
The Erdinger Beer Garden also remains solidly established. The Bavarian attitude to life on the big area with the colors white and blue is a contrast point with an atmosphere of the Alps in the overall maritime ambience and highly appreciated by the public.  From all around the promenade at the river Trave you have the best view onto the opposite shore Priwall with its harbour, where the traditional German tall ship Passat is moored and where yachts and dinghies will be leaving for the regatta starts during the week.  And in the afternoons (from 5pm) the Trave races are planned. Those are show races presented by a commentator to bring the sailing sport closer to a broad audience.  The mayors' race on Wednesday, 24. July, at noon, is also in this context, when Mayor Jan Lindenau will be competing against Monika Heinold in the sailing duel around the Volksbank Rotspon Cup.  The Minister of Finance is next to Susanne Gaschke, the former Lord Mayor of Kiel, the second woman competing in this race.  By the way: Susanne Gascke did win the duel in 2013.

Holsten Beach Area and Seafront
The fans of sun, sand and samba will find what their hearts desire at the Seafront. At the Holsten Beach Area at the beach next to the Northern pier, three beach clubs offer high spirits from German hits to club and chart music from the turntable. And to get strong for the long party nights, the whole range of food from local cuisine to European specialties and typical American and Mexican burgers as well as Asian rice and noodle dishes is offered along the gastronomic mile. Near the beach playground entertainment will be offered in the evenings on the big screen and on the beach stage for the regattas.  The visitors will find many things in the proven form as the years before, but some things will be new, since the area has slightly changed with the opening of the a-ja-Hotel.

Stadtwerke Luebeck Festival Garden
The Bruegmanngarten will again become the Stadtwerke (municipal utilities) Luebeck Festival Garden for the ten days of the TW. In the focus on the evenings: the program at the Stadtwerke Luebeck festival stage of course. From Friday, 19. July, until Sunday, 28. July, the music program changes from sentimental sounds from Andreas Kuemmert up to heavy rock from Brenner. The TW cult band United Four alternates with Lotto King Karl from Hamburg.  While the music lovers get what their hearts desire in the evenings, the kids and connoisseurs occupy the green area during the day. Apart from the permanent offer of a bouncy castle, bull riding and a climbing tower, there also is a changing program with a Nintendo truck, where gamers can test current games on the console, the HSV (a Hamburg sports club) football school and a playing street.  Parents can enjoy the culinary delights at the food trucks, while their kids are playing.  And around the Rondeel and the Bertlingstrasse, there is a shopping mile with craftwork as well as entertainment in the Gipsy Village and the wine square. In the Stadtwerke E-Parcours, the visitors can experience innovative mobility concepts. A driving experience in an electriic format is being offered. The offer is even being extended compared to the previous years.

Laser Show and Final Fireworks
The Travemuende Week again presents a colorful bouquet of summer activities until the late evening hours during the ten days. The popular pyro and laser show at the tall ship Passat is the optical highlight in the evening sky from Monday to Saturday at 22:45 and can best be seen from the promenade at the Trave. The final fireworks on 28. July at 22:45 above the Northern pier will then be the final climax and the optical end point of the Travemuende Week in its 130. year.
