The countdown for the Travemünder Woche has started and the anticipation among the organizers of the sailing and festival program is huge that it will finally start again. On Friday, July 22, at 6 p.m., the 133rd edition of the regatta week will be officially opened with the signal "Hoist the Flag!" by Mayor Jan Lindenau. After that, the fifth season of Lübeck begins until Sunday, July 31, with an exciting sailing program and the return of the festival to the promenades of the Trave and the Baltic Sea. At the kick-off press conference, those responsible for TW presented themselves in best harmony with the representatives of the authorities and the hope that the Travemünde Week can become a peaceful festival with a great deal of self-responsibility on the part of the visitors.
For Lutz Kleinfeldt, chairman of the main organizer Lübecker Yacht-Club, the 133rd edition of the TW is a special pleasure. Elected to office in 2020, Kleinfeldt is now experiencing his first Travemünder Woche as club chairman in almost full swing: "Last year we already had great sailing, but the winners could hardly celebrate their successes. But that is part of it, and we will experience that again this year," says Kleinfeldt. "In addition, we will again bring sailing directly to the spectator with the Trave Races and the Volksbank Rotspon Cup. A feature that sets TW apart from other sailing weeks."
Nevertheless, the planning of this edition of the TW placed high demands on Frank Schärffe, the managing director of Travemünder Woche gGmbH, and his team. "A Travemünder Woche is always elaborate. But Corona has left its mark. We had to deal with new contact persons many times. Nevertheless, we can say: the Travemünder Woche stands!" Schärffe emphasized the safeguarding of the event by the city of Lübeck, without which the sailing program would not be possible in this form, as funding can no longer be generated from the festival program as it was to the extent before Corona. "This will certainly continue to be the case in the future. Therefore, we are already working with the city and the tourism center in various workshops to restructure the land program in line with the development concept for 2030. We expect to present the plan to the citizenry in the fall."
