The show experience
Since their premiere in 2010, the show races in the Trave Sailing Arena have been the daily sporting highlight for the guests of the Travemünde Week. The races on spectacular classes directly in front of the audience on the Travepromemade, the Trave Races, have developed into the link between sailing and the festival.
In a time slot of around one hour in the afternoon (approx. 5 p.m.), the harbor authority opens the Trave between Passathafen on Priwall and the regatta center on the land side for short, tough races.
Four to eight crews compete against each other on the narrow course along the promenade.
Two semi-finals will determine the finalists, who will then battle it out for the prestigious victory, because nowhere else can the athletes present themselves more directly in front of an audience.
And thanks to the expert moderation by TW overall race director Anderl Denecke and our presenter Ralf Abratis, spectators who are not familiar with sailing are also taken into the regatta sport. The Lübeck Yacht Club’s Segel Arena Trave has thus earned a firm place in the TW visitors’ calendar – not only for the sailors as a promising variant of their sport, but also for the spectators, who can enjoy sailing and the festival in an unprecedented way and are right in the middle of the sailing action in a relaxed atmosphere.
