Trave Race: The sailing show experience

Since their premiere in 2010, the show races in the Segel Arena Trave have been the daily sporting highlight for guests of Travemünde Week. The races in spectacular classes right in front of the audience on the Travepromenade, the Trave Races, have become the link between sailing and the festival.

In a time slot of around one hour in the afternoon (approx. 5 p.m.), the harbour authority opens the Trave between Passathafen on the Priwall and the regatta centre on the land side for short, crisp races that pack a punch.

Four to eight crews compete against each other in duels on the narrow course along the promenade.

Two semi-finals determine the finalists, who then compete for the prestigious victory, because nowhere else can the competitors present themselves more directly to the public.

And thanks to expert commentary, even spectators who are not familiar with sailing are taken along on a journey into the world of regatta racing. The Segel Arena Trave of the Lübeck Yacht Club has thus earned itself a permanent place in the calendar of TW visitors – not only among sailors as a promising alternative to their sport, but also among spectators, who can enjoy sailing and the festival in an unprecedented way and be right in the middle of the sailing action in a relaxed atmosphere.
