In the front row at sunrise

Active participants in the sailing competitions and volunteers from the TW crew are lined up side by side in the front row by the sea with their caravans, tents, and motorhomes on the Mövenstein site of the Lübeck Yacht Club. The campers appreciate the location for Travemünde Week. “There but not in the middle of it” is the site’s motto.

“It’s the best club grounds I’ve ever seen at a regatta! The infrastructure, with its good sanitary and cooking facilities, is ideal. You can camp right next to your boat and spend time with the other sailors while still being a little away from the party scene. We really appreciate being able to camp here and have everything in one place: a place to sleep, a trailer, and a boat,” says Sandra Päckert from Berlin. She is competing with Gerrit Backmann in the F18 class at Travemünde Week.

While the two are preparing their boat for the races, Susanne Bürkele, still in her pajamas, enjoys the view of the Baltic Sea from her camper van a little further away. “The view is amazing,” she says, pulling out her phone to show a photo she took of the sunrise from her bed. Her daughter is one of the TW team volunteers and is already out on the water laying buoys for the regattas. This is Bürkele’s first visit to Travemünde Week, and she is excited. “The location is simply a dream. In the morning, I swim right next door on the beach. During the day, you can see some of the races from the Mövenstein. The festival mile and the spectacular Trave Races are only a ten-minute walk away. It’s just perfect.”

Two of the campers, who usually camp with their caravans at the Grünstrand during Travemünde Week (where there is no camping area this year), are part of the TW volunteer team. “We are pleasantly surprised by the new parking space. The view of the water is great, and the location on the beach is perfect for walking the dog in the morning.”

Visual and acoustic as well as sporting treats

Travemünde Week is kicking off its final weekend with plenty of momentum. There are still many highlights to come at all levels of the regatta and festival week.

From Friday to Sunday, twelve competitions will be decided, including the duel between record Travemünde Week winners Helge and Christian Sach and 2021 Olympic bronze medalist Paul Kohlhoff in Formula 18.

The weekend is expected to have an even better party atmosphere. The weather forecast promises warm, mostly dry days. Additionally, the school holidays are starting in Schleswig-Holstein, which will likely bring many families to Travemünde. The celebrations will continue until midnight in the party triangle between the Trave and beach promenades. The Brügmann Garden and König Pilsener Terrace festival stages, as well as the beach clubs and the Harbour Lounge in Sailors Village, will all offer full programs.

Visitors can also enjoy the various stands along the festival miles.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, two laser shows on the Trave promenade, offering a view of the Passat, will be a special treat for the eyes. The emotional highlight and finale of Travemünde Week will be the fireworks display over the Nordermole on Sunday evening.

Pyrotechnician Mirco Lorkowski titled his spectacular pyrotechnic and musical display “Forever Young.” “It is perfectly coordinated with modern, contemporary music. A colorful spectacle unfolds that stirs emotions and connects generations. Every light element follows the beat of the music — precisely, dynamically, and thrillingly,” Lorkowski explains, promising, “Whether you experience goosebumps, amazement, or pure enthusiasm, this spectacular fireworks display will be the perfect finale to an unforgettable Travemünde Week. It will be an evening full of magic, music, and emotions. ‘Forever Young’ will remain in your memory!”
