On the second day of racing, Travemünde Week defied all weather forecasts. Instead of rain and challenging winds, the Bay of Lübeck offered dream conditions that more than made up for the curtailed schedule of the opening day. Sailors competed for points across all seven racecourses. In addition, practice races and training sessions took place for other classes set to begin their championships in the coming days. The Baltic Sea presented a vibrant spectacle, filled with the colorful sails of the RS classes, Hobies, and various other dinghy and keelboat classes. Heavy showers only arrived once most sailors were back in the harbor. Undeterred, however, competitors from the RS 500 class put on an exhibition race for festival visitors during the “Trave Races.”
For the Hobie catamarans, their appearance at the 137th Travemünde Week concluded this Sunday. After the fleet had to weather fierce gusts beneath the steep cliffs of the Brodtener Ufer on day one, conditions were significantly calmer on day two. Nevertheless, shifting winds and fluctuating speeds kept the racing challenging.
After the all-male crew of Maurice Schwarz and Roman Kühler (Bocholt) dominated the first day, mixed crews took the spotlight on day two. Ulf Hahn and Katrin Wiese-Dohse (SC Kellenhusen)—who had secured the German vice-championship title just a week earlier—climbed to first place in the overall standings with a race series of 3, 2, 1. Schwarz and Kühler managed to hold onto the silver medal, finishing ahead of the young team from Surendorf, Lukas Riepe and Wiebke Finkemeyer. That evening, they were able to accept their trophies alongside the crews of the seagoing yachts, who were wrapping up their second Travemünde Week regatta of 2026. Following the long-distance race, the action shifted to three races on the windward-leeward course—featuring a high-profile lineup. Among the competitors were former world champions led by Jürgen Klinghardt (Lübeck) on Patent 4 and the 2022 European champions led by Jens Kuphal (Berlin) on Exciter.
Although both crews started the races cautiously, they went on to engage in the anticipated duel for the top spot, each securing a first and a second-place finish. Ultimately, the better result in the first race tipped the scales in favor of Patent 4, which claimed the Travemünde Week winner’s trophy ahead of Exciter and Torsten Habicht’s Matchbox (from Wismar).
In the Yardstick classification, Björn Carstensen’s Pepper and Salt (Scharbeutz) celebrated victory. A series of 1-3-1 across the three races was just enough to secure the win ahead of Florian Walden and his crew on Venskab (Lübeck) and Stefan Meining’s Na und (Lübeck). Only a single point separated each of the top three finishers.
For the Finn and H-Boat classes, as well as the J/22s competing in their German Open, the Travemünde Week action continues for another round or two. Heading into the final day, the Köhne family from Berlin—led by skipper Holger—has positioned itself strongly to clinch the H-Boat victory on Monday. However, their two-point lead over Andreas Krause (also from Berlin) offers no room for complacency.
In the J/22 class, all signs point to a new winner taking the top spot at Travemünde Week. Perennial winner Reiner Brockerhoff from Duisburg sits in only fourth place alongside his French crewmates heading into the final races. Wolf Jeschonnek (Berlin) is well on his way to dethroning the defending champion. Hot on his heels are two crews from Hamburg, helmed by Thorsten Spötter and Andreas Dillmann.
The Finn class still has two days of racing scheduled in Travemünde. At the top of the fleet, the anticipated duel between the multiple German champions is unfolding; after four races, André Budzien (Schwerin) and Fabian Lemmel (Berlin) each have two victories to their names. A pair of second-place finishes tips the scales in favor of Budzien, who holds a one-point lead over Lemmel.
