Travemünde artists exhibit in the cruise terminal, 19 – 28 July 2024
While the who’s who of international sailing meets in Travemünde from 19 to 28 July 2024, Travemünde artists will offer an exciting insight into their maritime art and creativity in the “Galerie Hafenpanorama” in the cruise terminal. After the successful premiere last year, Lübeck und Travemünde Marketing GmbH, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Education of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, is once again organising the maritime exhibition in the glass terminal at Ostpreußenkai on the occasion of Travemünde Week in order to demonstrate the connection between the local art scene and the popular sailing event. In close cooperation with the Travemünde artists’ community, a total of eighteen painters and photographers from Travemünde and the region will be presenting their work on 450 square metres on the themes of the sea, ships, beaches, wind and sailing. As part of the Lübeck Urban Arts Festival (LUAF), the facade of the terminal will be decorated with “Tape Art” by the artist Stephan Meißner. Mayor Jan Lindenau has taken on the patronage of the harbour gallery and will officially open the exhibition on Friday, 19 July at 7.00 pm.
“Travemünde and the sea belong together like a ship and its sail. They are inextricably linked and there are many beautiful moments and motifs in the seaside resort that express this special symbiosis,” explains Mayor Jan Lindenau. “The harbour panorama gallery is an enrichment for the Travemünde Week programme and I am delighted that so many artists from Travemünde and the region are taking part and presenting their maritime art under one roof. As a special guest in Travemünde, I would like to welcome Stephan Meißner, a member of the Berlin-based artist collective TAPE THAT, who will transform our cruise terminal into a work of art made of coloured adhesive tape with his tape art installation.
The artists exhibiting at Galerie Hafenpanorama this year are Inga Prasse, Mara Heidi Sieber, Michael Weigel, Heidi Metzner, Sabine Schöne, Maia Bald, Eva-Maria Schulze, Heike Schmaland, Jacek Krefft, Gerd Rehme, Claus Oldörp, Frank Lender, Christine Löwa, Anna Weber, Regina Götting, Frauke Klatt and Wim Westfield together with Ukrainian guest artist Olga Khmyz. The Verein für Kunst und Kultur zu Travemünde e.V. will show a film and 3D models of their WindArt objects. Children from the Travemünde Community Centre will present their self-painted pictures, including the dolphin Delle, who has taken people’s hearts by storm with her visit to the seaside resort.
A varied programme of workshops and stages completes the harbour gallery and invites visitors to linger and get creative themselves. The programme includes painting and drawing courses, readings, a “painterly” walk through Travemünde, an upcycling workshop, a photography course and tape art workshops in the open space at the terminal and on the mobile wall in the Brügmanngarten. All courses are free of charge, but registration may be required.
